A Brief History Of The Nine Years’ War

The Nine Years’ War—also known as the 9YW or 9YW—was the bloodiest war in human history, lasting from 14 January, 2206 to 25 September, 2215, ending with the twenty-four hour Tenth Battle of Tau Ceti, the bloodiest battle in human history, with 57.6 billion dead on both sides.

Final casualty figures, for both sides, were 756,097,184,319 confirmed dead, 22,800,127,800,000 wounded, 1,971,421,219,100 missing in action and presumed dead. These totals include civilian casualties.

Commonwealth and allied casualties were 487,600,027,824 confirmed dead, 11,000,000,122,000 wounded, 1,750,000,071,045 missing in action and presumed dead. These totals include civilian casualties.

As with any war, almost all those casualties were women. This was even more true in this war; on 12 November, 2214, the crew of the Commonwealth Forces frigate Unbroken discovered an extermination camp for female political prisoners run jointly by the Terranovan Republican Special Forces Command & the Terranovan Security and Intelligence Directorate at Mont Noir, near the city of Schofield, on DeGaulle. Of the estimated half-billion inmates condemned to that hellhole, only 36 survived.

To this day, the Terranovan government denies Mont Noir even took place.

Under the terms of the Tau Ceti Accords, the League members were forced to recognize the independence of Big Sky, and to pay a total of $ 320 quadrillion CMD in reparations, the Terranovan government’s share of that being $CMD 33.7Q to both the Federation of Midnight Sun($CMD 23.1Q) and the Commonwealth ($CMD 10.6Q).

The New Whitehorse government has yet to make good on its debt.

The Accords also called for the cession of Black Mountain by the DeGaulle federal government to the Commonwealth; currently, a joint Commonwealth-Midnight Sun mission is on site, carrying out the ongoing task of identifying those who were murdered at Black Mountain. A division each of Commonwealth Forces & Midnight Sun heavy infantry, plus two wings of frigates, stand guard against those seeking to destroy the camp and obliterate all trace of the terrible crimes committed here.
